- Warm - Pack the right kinds of clothes. Layer your clothing and don't use cotton. Cotton is not a sufficient insulator. Synthetics or wool work best for keeping the body warm. Start with a base layer thermal underwear and add according to weather conditions.
- Dry - ensure your gear is waterproof. Waterproof bags, gloves, pants, jackets, etc. The weather is somewhat unpredictable, so you need to be ready
- Follow the equipment list that was provided
We were given a six page check off list to act as our guide in making our equipment purchases. I used my own resources to purchase gear, so I was very careful in how much money I was spending. Many hours were spent on Craigslist, Ebay, Backcountry.com, REI, Sierra Trading Post, Cabelas, etc. looking for these best gear at the best prices. This drove my wife and children bonkers. However, I was able to save a considerable amount from being a bit thrifty and watching my dollars. It just happened that this expedition coincided with the end of the ski season and many items were at good discounts. One of my favorite online outlets was Backcountry. Chris was fantastic to work with and he knew the products. If you go to Cabela's, check out the bargin den.
Where are you hiding that LaserJet i sent you with? mtb
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you're prepared.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally against this! We have a planet to save, and people flock to the most remote and isolated areas that we have got left on this. It will result in polluting this precious place - please leave it untouched!
ReplyDeleteWe have already seen several "Tourists" down there, ferrys having trouble, etc. - make a difference - stay away!
